THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (May 23, 2014) – Being prepared can help residents protect their families and reduce the impact an emergency has on lives. Residents and businesses in The Woodlands have the opportunity to learn how to be prepared by attending The Woodlands Emergency Preparedness Community Event, hosted by The Woodlands Township and sponsored by Entergy on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at The Woodlands Township Town Hall, 2801 Technology Forest Boulevard. Participants and sponsors include The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Services Department, Entergy Texas, Inc., The Woodlands Fire Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, District 6 Crime Prevention Unit; Harris County Constable’s Office, Precinct 4; Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management, the National Weather Service, The Woodlands Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Montgomery County Hospital District/Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), Montgomery County 9-1-1, Montgomery County Search and Rescue, H-E-B, Home Depot, American Red Cross, CenterPoint Energy, Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES), Interfaith of The Woodlands, Montgomery County United Way/MC-CARES/HelpOurCounty.org, United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Montgomery County Sheriff Citizen’s Academy Alumni Association and First Choice Emergency Room.
Participants and sponsors will be available to answer resident questions about emergency preparedness and provide giveaways and handouts at the event for the whole family. The National Weather Service will present Hurricane Predictions for 2014 and Entergy will present Operation Storm Ready to help explain power outages and plans to prevent them.
Attendees will also be able to hear from speakers about volunteer opportunities with The Woodlands CERT and The Woodlands Township, The Woodlands Watch neighborhood watch program, and hear about the duties of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary during emergencies.
See the exciting “Arcs and Sparks” electric demonstrations, visit safety vehicles, find out about useful Web links online, and view brief emergency preparedness videos to help prepare for a hurricane or any emergency. Also, free hot dogs will be provided by the West Conroe Baptist Church Disaster Relief Ministry using their emergency kitchen.
