THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (June 4, 2014) – The Woodlands Township Board of Directors took steps toward helping making The Way Home sculpture in Town Green Park a reality at its May 21, 2014, Board of Directors Meeting. The Way Home sculpture is part of the Veterans’ Memorial Monument which includes a Walk of Honor, also to be located at Town Green Park.
With a recommendation from the Township Economic Development Committee, The Woodlands Township Board of Directors voted unanimously to waive the current requirement for a $50,000 perpetual maintenance fund for The Way Home sculpture since the sculpture and monument will be maintained as part of the regular park care administered by the Township.
The Way Home sculpture is being created in dedication to all active duty and veterans of all branches and all conflicts. It is modeled after Army Cpl. Cory C. Kosters and Army Cpl. Zach R. Endsley, two residents of The Woodlands who bravely gave their lives for their country in 2007.
The sculpture is a fund-raising project by the Greater Woodlands Art Foundation, and will be sculpted by Edd Hayes, named the “Official Texas State Sculptor.” The Way Home sculpture will make its home on the east side of Town Green Park, below the walkway to The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.
The Board of Directors asked for the foundation to bring back final construction plans in the near future.
