The season began by placing second and third at the 28th Annual Texas Superguard Competition. Twenty-eight lifeguards from The Woodlands community pools participated at this event in College Station, Texas, on July 12, 2010. The events were four team scenarios which included CPR/First Aid and spinal management scenarios.
The team placings were:
•2nd place: Kent Doerries, Lauren Gates, Kellie Pierce and Zach Barbeau. •3rd place: Brock Gerard, Tom Gleason, Carly Kamburis and Heather Purviance.
The Woodlands Township also sent four teams to Texas Open Lifeguard Competition in Houston, Texas, on July 17 and 18, 2010. The competition consisted of a written test, first aid scenario, CPR scenario, backboarding, scanning video, rescue tube relay, passive victim recovery relay and submerged victim resuscitation rescue.
•The Woodlands Undertow – 3rd place overall, 1st place in the Waterpark Division: Nick Hluza, Trohn Trabona, Brock Gerard, Nick Green, Kent Doerries, Lauren Gates, Erica Hill and John McGowan.
•Nature’s Revenge – 6th place overall, 6th place in the Municipality Division:Bryan Conn, Caroline Pierce, Karina Mankiewicz, Austin Mankiewicz, Zack Mankiewicz, Carly Kamburis, Zach Barbeau, and Dustin Bassett.
By placing in the top three positions at one of the regional lifeguard competitions, The Woodlands Township will be represented by three teams for the 2010 Texas Public Pool Council Lifeguard State Championship in Waco, Texas, on August 9, 2010.
