Special celebration scheduled to commemorate The Woodlands Watch

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (August 22, 2014) – A special celebration to commemorate the 30th anniversary of The Woodlands Watch is scheduled to take place at the Concert in the Park on Sunday, September 7, 2014 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The celebration and concert will be held at Northshore Park at 2505 Lake Woodlands Drive.

The Woodlands Watch of the Township’s Neighborhood Services department would like to recognize those who play a valuable role in the Police-Fire-Community Partnership. Special thanks will be given to The Woodlands Fire Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Harris County Constable, Precinct 4, and The Woodlands Watch coordinators. This partnership creates the shared sense of community necessary for effective crime prevention.

Three decades after its inception, The Woodlands Watch continues to grow. However, the Watch continues to base its practices on the same concepts:

  • Neighbor knowing neighbor is the first step in crime prevention.
  • The community must maintain a strong working relationship with local law enforcement.

The strength of the Watch program can be attributed to the shared sense of community of The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Services, Public Safety personnel and the volunteer neighborhood coordinators. In this proactive program, crime prevention practices are shared and neighbors are encouraged to get to know one another through a series of outreach programs. These programs include Watch Meetings, Good Neighbor Days, National Night Out, Neighborhood Involvement Days and other events scheduled throughout the year.

Throughout the years, this effective program has won numerous awards. These accolades include awards from the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners, Texas Crime Prevention Association and the National Association of Town Watch. The Woodlands Watch has consistently placed in the top 10 communities in the National Night Out competition in its population category and many times in the top five communities.

Residents interested in participating in this program should contact The Woodlands Township at 281-210-3800 or neighbor@thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov. The Township will provide the tools to get organized. For more information on The Woodlands Township, please visit www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov.
