Where can you park for the Boat House?

Where is the Boat House located?
The address is 2101 Riva Row, The Woodlands, TX 77380. It is located east of the Boardwalk Apartments and across The Waterway from Town Green Park.

Where can you park for the Boat House?
There are approximately 20 parking spots available along Riva Row.

What are the hours of operation?
Currently, the Boat House is open dailly from 9 a.m. to sunset. It is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The last kayak is rented one hour before sunset for a one-hour rental.

Is the Boat House open for the holidays?
The only holidays that the Boat House is closed are Thanksgiving (November 25) and Christmas Day (December 25).
5.
How old must you be to rent a kayak?
A child age 9 years and younger must ride in a kayak with someone older than 18 years of age. A child age 10 to 15 years may be in their own boat, but with adult supervision. Children 16 to 17 years of age may kayak without supervision, but their parent/legal guardian must sign the rental waiver.

What is needed to rent a kayak?
Payment, a signed
waiver
and a valid I.D. as a deposit.

How can you pay for your kayak rental?
The Boat House accepts cash, checks, Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express.

Is it o.k. for a group of people to rent out kayaks and swap people in and out of them?
No. If a single kayak is rented, the person who signed the waiver form is the only person that can use the kayak. If a double kayak is rented, then only the two people who signed the waiver form can use the kayak. Thus, there is no transferring of kayak rentals among people in a group. Please note, the Riva Row Boat House does offer group rates.

Does the Boat House offer group discounts or private parties?
Yes. Please call 281-210-3965 for details.

Are food and drinks allowed in the kayaks?
Yes, but glass containers and alcoholic beverages are prohibited. The Boat House has light concessions available, including water and sport drinks.
11.
Is fishing allowed in Lake Woodlands?
Yes, but not in The Waterway. Once you enter Lake Woodlands you must follow the rules of Texas Parks and Wildlife, including catch and release.
12.
What is the inclement weather policy?
If thunder is heard or lightning is seen, then kayak operations will be closed until 30 minutes has passed with neither thunder nor lightning occurring. If you and your party are out on the lake, then go to Northshore, Southshore or the Cove and find shelter until the weather passes.

Does the Boat House offer any programs?
There are several different types of programs available. View the Action Guide online or contact the The Woodlands Township Recreation Center at 281-210-3950.

How do you properly prepare yourself to go kayaking at the Boat House?
First, look at the weather and temperatures for the day. If it is windy, you might need a jacket. If it is warm and sunny, you may need sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. No matter what the weather is like, drink plenty of water!

Does the Boat House take reservations?
Yes, reservations are limited and must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Payment is also required in advance. No reservations will be taken on holidays.

Can I rent a kayak if I have no previous training?
Yes, kayaks are simple to operate and our friendly staff will go over proper paddling and steering techniques before you leave the dock.

What type of kayaks does the Boat House offer?
The Boathouse has 22 tandem kayaks; some can hold up to 450 pounds and others can hold up to 600 pounds. Typically, this would be two adults and possibly a small child. There also are 20 single kayaks in various lengths.

Can we go kayaking anywhere?
You are allowed anywhere on Lake Woodlands. Kayaks are not allowed in the upper Waterway.
19.
Do we need to bring a lifejacket?
No, the Boat House has lifejackets for all sizes. If you have your own personal lifejacket, it can be used provided it is U.S. Coast Guard approved. All people renting kayaks from the Boat House must wear a lifejacket at all times.
20.
Are the kayaks big enough to hold all of my personal belongings?
The kayaks are large enough to hold small bags or coolers. The Boat House offers lockers for you to store larger items or things you might not want to get wet. Please bring your own lock.
21.
What happens if all the kayaks are rented out?
Once all kayaks are rented, the Boat House will start a waiting list. People must be present at the Boat House to put their name on the list and provide a phone number. They can wait at the Boat House until their kayak has arrived or enjoy the park. If they leave the park, the Boat House will provide a courtesy call, and after 15 minutes if the person does not return to the Boat House their name will be dropped from the waiting list.
22.
Do you allow dogs to ride in the kayaks?
Yes, dogs are allowed to ride in the kayaks. The Woodlands Dog Park Club has donated dog life vests for all sizes. Dogs ride for no additional charge.
23.
Can we put three people in a kayak?
Our tandem kayaks our designed to fit a maximum of two people, however, we can fit two adults and one small child, only if the child is less than 42 inches tall.
