Groundwater Reduction Plan (GRP)

The San Jacinto River Authority's GRP project includes the construction of water pipelines through The Woodlands which will bring in surface water from Lake Conroe, helping to reduce the increasing demand for the diminishing groundwater supply. The major areas that will be affected by this construction will be along the eastbound lanes of Research Forest and southbound lanes of Grogan’s Mill, however as of mid-June 2013, preconstruction is beginning in western portions of The Woodlands. See the map linked below.

Many years of planning have gone into this project with The Woodlands section of construction scheduled to be complete by late 2014 and final completion by 2015. The sign pictured above will appear in areas affected by the construction.

Water Line Construction Information

Community Information provided by The San Jacinto River Authority (SJRA) –

The SJRA has begun initial construction activity on a water line system that is part of its Groundwater Reduction Plan that will provide additional, long term water supplies for residents and businesses throughout Montgomery County, including The Woodlands.

While construction has been taking place at Lake Conroe over the past several months, signs of construction are now visible in The Woodlands. Some of these areas include:

  • Along Research Forest Drive and Kuykendahl Road: contractors have begun mobilizing, conducting initial clearing and brushing for construction survey staking, installing silt fencing and tree protection, and performing utility locating.
  • Along FM 2978: contractors are mobilizing, performing controlled brushing for line of site for construction survey staking, and performing utility locating.

Construction on this plan will impact certain areas within The Woodlands over the next 24 months. At this point, construction has begun at the northwest section of The Woodlands. Ultimately, construction will take a path down McCaleb/Fish Creek Thoroughfare, then along Research Forest Drive, and continue down Grogan's Mill Road to Sawdust Road.
