IMPORTANT NOTICE 

We have completed our new application and permit system which requires online submittal for all applications for residential and commercial permits.  Also, effective on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, the Township will no longer accept cash for compliance deposits. Instead, we will accept credit cards and e-checks, providing a secure and efficient method for processing deposits.

About the Department

The Covenant Administration Department provides the office support for Residential Design Review Committees.These are committees of community-elected repreCIVIC ACCESS PORTAL: APPLY, PAY AND MANAGE YOUR APPLICATIONsentatives that serve as architectural control groups to protect the aesthetic character of the residential areas in The Woodlands. The department also supports the Development Standards Committee.

Covenants and Standards

The Woodlands Covenants and Residential Development Standards have been designed to put into place procedures that will carry forward The Woodlands development philosophy while enhancing the quality of life. 
 
The Woodlands Covenants and Standards:

    • Encourage environmental excellence. 
    • Preserve the design integrity and architectural quality of Woodlands dwellings. 
    • Prevent the deterioration of neighborhoods that inevitably follows an unregulated, laissez-faire philosophy of construction, maintenance and property use.
    • Uphold property values.
The Covenants and Standards, which apply to all properties in The Woodlands, may require application for any construction, placement, alteration or repair of any temporary or permanent structure or improvement on a lot with an existing single family dwelling. Please contact the office to discuss the repairs needed and whether or not an application is required. In addition to the Standards, Neighborhood Criteria establish more specific regulations which vary from one neighborhood to another. All improvements must also comply with the Neighborhood Criteria applicable to that lot.
