Join the corps of well-informed volunteer specialists who provide education, outreach, and service to keep our local water bodies healthy by volunteering right here at home. This unique certification program, made possible by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and The Woodlands Township Environmental Services Department, is offered to both students (grades 9 – 12) and adults.
You can obtain all the needed training hours right here in The Woodlands by attending Environmental Services Department FREE classes scheduled throughout the year.
You can be certified as a Texas Waters Specialist after completing just 8 hours of training based on the Texas Waters curriculum guide. Adults 18 and older receive a certificate and an official pin designating you as a certified waters specialist directly from TPWD, or earn your hours through The Woodlands Township. Sign up to get notices about upcoming classes at Sign me up as a Texas Waters Specialist.
Adults can start their certification by registering as a TPWD volunteer at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Volunteer webpage. For more detailed instructions on how to register with TPWD, view the Volunteer Registration and Reporting Guide PDF.
(NOTE: Students under age 18, in grades 9 through 12, should register with The Woodlands Environmental Services Department to report hours and receive your certificate/pin. Students can register at Sign me up as a Texas Waters Specialist for all class notices.)
