Going Green Lecture

Thursday, November 29, 2018

The Woodlands G.R.E.E.N. is sponsoring a Going Green Sustainability Lecture entitled “Spring Creek and the San Jacinto River-How’s the Water” to be held at the offices of the Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC), located at 8801 Gosling Road, The Woodlands, on Thursday, November 29, at 7:00 p.m.

Steven Johnston, a Senior Planner in the Community and Environmental Department at the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC), will discuss the current quality of water in Spring Creek and the West Fork of the San Jacinto River Watersheds. He will also tell us what we as individuals can do to protect the integrity of these important regional water bodies and what the future brings if we do nothing.

TOPIC: Steven will speak to the water quality parameters in these 2 related systems that do not currently meet water quality standards set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.  He will also explore possible causes for the impairments. Projects, practices, and opportunities that can be taken on at the local residential and community level to improve water quality will be highlighted.

Those who attend will also enjoy learning about HARC’s energy and water efficient building, which has been awarded the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum Green Building Certification. HARC’s is the first building in The Woodlands or Montgomery County to be designated as such.
