On March 16, 2020, Texas Governor Greg Abbott temporarily suspended certain requirements within the Texas Open Meetings Act (TOMA) to help reduce the potential transmission of COVID-19. These provisions relate to the public health pandemic emergency. The Township will begin using videoconferencing for their March 25, 2020 Board meeting, which can be viewed live here: http://www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/778/Meeting-Videos.
"The Woodlands Township Board of Directors is committed and here to help our residents and business," said Chairman Gordy Bunch. "We are fortunate and blessed to have incredible support by our directors to help continue meeting, in an innovative way, as we need to take care of our residents and businesses."
The Board of Directors, in an emergency meeting on Monday, March 16, 2020, dedicated themselves to continue meeting but with the recommended 6-foot social distancing protocol and subsequent orders from Montgomery County, the board and staff looked for alternatives forms to meet.
"We want people to know what we’re doing and always abide by the meetings act," Chairman Bunch said. "We are appreciative of Gov. Abbott temporarily suspending certain requirements, and we have figure a way to have our residents watch in."
Chairman Bunch said the Information Technology technology professionals at The Woodlands Township have also figured a way to have public comment in the virtual meeting.
Participation by members of the public in open meetings of the Board of Directors is welcomed and encouraged, he said. A “public comment” agenda item is included at the beginning of all regular Board meeting agendas. During the March 25, 2020, videoconference Board meeting, members of the public may provide public comment by calling 877-853-5247 (toll-free), then enter ID 966 224 808 #. Calls will be taken in the order the calls are received and only during the “public comment” agenda item. This phone number is active only for the March 25, 2020 Board meeting. New phone numbers will be issued for each future meeting during the public health pandemic emergency.
