Township Board of Directors Meeting
The Woodlands Township Board of Directors will hold a Regular Board Meeting via videoconference today, Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 6 p.m. Central Daylight Time. View the meeting online here.
During today’s videoconference Board meeting, members of the public may provide public comment by calling 346-248-7799 or 877-853-5247 (toll-free), then enter ID 841 7421 9602 #. Calls will be taken in the order the calls are received and only during the “public comment” agenda item. This phone number is active only for the July 16, 2020 Regular Board meeting. New phone numbers will be issued for each future meeting during the public health pandemic emergency.

Montgomery County COVID-19 Case Count increases by 177
MONTGOMERY COUNTY - In an effort to address a lot of the questions we are getting about the change in reporting, Montgomery County has added information to the Frequently Asked Questions portion of its website. If you have a question regarding the change or calculations of the numbers, please go to https://mcphd-tx.org/ and scroll down to the FAQs. This should help clear up any confusion.
Today, Montgomery County can regrettably confirm an additional death related to COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 46. A man in his 60s, from Magnolia, died in the hospital. He had co-morbidities in addition to testing positive for COVID-19. We offer our condolences to his family.
The total number of COVID-19 cases increased by 177 to 4,501 cases in Montgomery County. ACTIVE cases of COVID-19 decreased to 2,088. Of the 2,088 active cases who are Montgomery County residents, 58 are known to be in the hospital, as a result of contact investigations. Contact investigations have not been initiated on all reported cases. 2,262 people have clinically recovered.
Please note, the calculation for active cases has been updated to no longer include cases that County personnel have been unable to contact for more than 30 days. For example, if someone tested positive in April, but the County unsuccessful in its attempts to contact them, their case would no longer be considered “active.”

It’s more important than ever to take steps to slow the spread of COVID-19. Consider staying home unless it is necessary to leave your home. Avoid groups of people. Wear a mask (if it is necessary to be in public), wash your hands or use hand sanitizer frequently, disinfect surfaces in your car and around your home, and practice social distancing.

Testing in Montgomery County
A reminder, online registration is now available for COVID-19 testing through the MCPHD/MCHD voucher program. Click on “Need to be tested?” on mchd-tx.org or mcphd-tx.org and follow the instructions. Call the COVID-19 Call Center at 936-523-5040, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for more information.
Harris County COVID-19 Case Count
Harris County Public Health (HCPH) publishes their daily case count, combined with the City of Houston's daily case count, here: https://tinyurl.com/tzymvk5. Cases by zip code in Harris County can be found by clicking on areas of the map.
The Village of Creekside Park is located in two zip codes: 77375 and 77389, and these also include Magnolia, Augusta Pines/Auburn Lakes/West Rayford Road in northwest Harris County. Today, Harris County is reporting zip code 77375 has 347 confirmed positive cases with 152 active cases, and 77389 has 198 confirmed positive cases with 54 active cases.

FDA Answers Questions About Hand Sanitizer Uses and Safety
The FDA is working to address the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak and keep you and your family informed on the latest developments. Here are answers to some frequently asked questions from consumers about hand sanitizers and disinfectants:
Q: What is the risk of using a hand sanitizer that contains methanol (wood alcohol)?
A: The FDA is warning consumers and health care professionals about hand sanitizers that contain methanol, also known as wood alcohol, because it is a dangerous and toxic substance. Methanol can cause serious side effects when absorbed through the skin and can cause blindness or death when swallowed. Do not use any products on this list of hand sanitizers with potential methanol contamination, and continue checking this list often as it is being updated daily.
Q: What should I do with hand sanitizer that contains methanol (wood alcohol)?
A: If you have one of the products on this list of hand sanitizers with potential methanol contamination, you should immediately stop using it and dispose of the product, ideally in a hazardous waste container. Because these hand sanitizers contain significant amounts of methanol, do not pour these products down the drain or flush them. Contact your local waste management and recycling center for more information on hazardous waste disposal.
Q: What should people do that have been exposed to hand sanitizer with potential methanol contamination?
A: Methanol exposure can result in nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, permanent blindness, seizures, coma, permanent damage to the nervous system or death. Although people using these products on their hands are at risk for methanol poisoning, young children who accidentally swallow these products and adolescents and adults who drink these products as an alcohol (ethanol) substitute are most at risk. People who have been exposed to hand sanitizer containing methanol and are experiencing symptoms should seek immediate medical treatment for potential reversal of toxic effects of methanol poisoning.
Q: Does spraying people with disinfectant lower the spread of COVID-19?
A. Currently there are no data showing that spraying people with aerosolized disinfectants, or having people walk through tunnels or rooms where disinfectant is in the air, can treat, prevent, or lower the spread of COVID-19. Surface disinfectants should not be used on people or animals. Disinfectant products, such as sprays, wipes, or liquids, are to be used only on hard, non-porous surfaces (materials that do not absorb liquids easily), such as floors and countertops. CDC provides information regarding disinfectant practices for surfaces in the Reopening Guidance for Cleaning and Disinfecting Public Spaces, Workplaces, Businesses, Schools, and Homes. Governor Announces Additional Federal Resources Activated
Governor Abbott announced that additional federal resources have been activated and are being sent to the Houston region to combat COVID-19.
The additional resources include an Urban Area Medical Task Force from the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) and a Disaster Medical Assistance Team from U.S. Health and Human Services. These resources add to a DOD Urban Area Medical Task Force that just began operating in Bexar County as well as seven federal assessment teams operating in Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, McAllen, Laredo and El Paso this past week. The Governor continues daily collaboration with Texas' federal partners to expand resources for any regions to respond to COVID-19. View the Governor’s complete announcement.
Governor Announces Additional Testing Sites
Governor Greg Abbott announced on Sunday, July 12, 2020, that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has extended federal support of Community Based Testing Sites in Dallas and Houston through July 31, 2020. Rock the Row Concert Series
Rock the Row features local and regional bands playing a variety of favorites from classic rock and pop to Motown each Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. in Hughes Landing near Restaurant Row. This week’s featured band is Ripp Tackett (Texas Rock). The Township Board of Directors considered the production of parks and recreation programs, services and special events with thoughtful deliberation and approved the Parks and Recreation Department to produce Rock the Row provided the concerts are in compliance with the Governor's Order and approved by the County Judge.
Those planning to attend the concerts are encouraged to wear face coverings, should practice social distancing, refrain from gathering in large groups and continue following all guidelines established by the CDC when in public spaces and around others outside of your household. |
