The Woodlands Township Property Tax Rate
The Woodlands Township Board of Directors adopted the 2024 Property Tax Rate of $0.174 per $100 of taxable value on September 5, 2024.

County Tax Assessor-Collector
The Township property tax is included as an additional line item in the fall of each year on the Montgomery County Tax Assessor-Collector tax bill, or the Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector tax bill, depending on where the property is located.
Sales and Use Tax Rate
The Woodlands Township current sales and use tax rate is 8.25 percent. The State of Texas receives 6.25 percent, 1.0 percent is allocated to The Woodlands Township, and 1.0 percent to The Woodlands Township Economic Development Zone.

Hotel Occupancy Tax
The total hotel occupancy tax rate within The Woodlands Township is 15% (0.15) of the base cost of each room night.
- The Woodlands Township’s hotel occupancy tax rate is 9% (0.09). Every person owning, operating, managing or controlling any hotel or collecting payment for occupancy of a short-term rental shall collect the Hotel Occupancy Tax from their guests to be remitted to The Woodlands Township.
- The Woodlands Township’s hotel occupancy tax is in addition to the 6% (0.06) rate imposed by the State of Texas, which must be remitted separately. For information on the State Hotel Occupancy Tax, please visit: comptroller.texas.gov/taxes/hotel
Filing Hotel Occupancy Tax
The Hotel Occupancy Tax Report form should be used for calculating and reporting hotel occupancy taxes to The Woodlands Township. You must file this report if you are a sole owner, partnership, corporation or other organization that owns, operates, manages, and/or controls any hotel, motel, or other location offering “sleeping rooms” for periods of less than 30 days in The Woodlands Township.

Tax Abatements
The Woodlands Township may consider tax abatement agreements as an economic development tool to encourage significant new investment and job creation within the community. In accordance with a formal resolution and state law, the Township has adopted Montgomery County’s Guidelines and Criteria for Tax Abatement, with modifications specific to the Township. All tax abatement agreements are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and require prior approval from Montgomery County before consideration by the Township Board of Directors.
