Director, Dr. Shelley Sekula-Gibbs
A fifth-generation Texan, Dr. Shelley Sekula-Gibbs is currently serving her third term on The Woodlands Township Board of Directors. Her motto is “Keep The Woodlands Wonderful” and make it even better for future generations. Dr. Shelley strives to put residents’ concerns at the forefront of Board decisions. Some of her priorities are fully funding public safety, maintaining sound fiscal policy, reducing cut-through traffic, mitigating flooding, minimizing subsidence, and protecting the natural beauty of The Woodlands through reforestation and sound environmental policies.
Dr. Sekula-Gibbs has served as Alternate Chairman of the One Water Task Force and on the Visit The Woodlands Board of Directors, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Council, Audit Committee, and Investment Committee. She successfully lobbied for the creation of the new Upper Watershed position on the San Jacinto Regional Flood Planning Group, which encompasses all of Montgomery County and smaller parts of surrounding counties. She is also a member of the North Houston Association Water Committee.
In the arena of transportation, Dr. Sekula-Gibbs is the Township’s representative on the Conroe/The Woodlands Urbanized Area (UZA) Transit Advisory Committee, where she currently serves as Chairman. The Conroe/The Woodlands UZA is the second largest public transit organization in the region after Harris County METRO and oversees The Woodlands Express bus service and trolley service.
In 2024, Dr. Sekula-Gibbs was selected to serve on the Houston-Galveston Area Council’s (H-GAC) Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC), where she currently serves as: primary member for the TAC Environmental category; Regional Transportation (RTP) Subcommittee-Alternate Member for the Environmental category, and Transportation Air Quality (TAQ) Subcommittee-Primary Member for the Local Government category. The TAC reviews and evaluates H-GAC’s regional transportation plans and provides recommendations to the Transportation Policy Council, a Metropolitan Planning Organization that represents Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Harris, Galveston, Liberty, Montgomery, and Waller counties.
Dr. Sekula-Gibbs is an experienced, conservative leader who served three terms on the Houston City Council. In 2006, she won a special election to the U.S. House of Representatives. She and her husband live in The Woodlands where they attend St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and enjoy spending time with their grandchildren. She recently returned to part-time dermatology practice.
