Committees & Boards

Boards, Committees and Task Forces serve as vital advisory bodies within The Woodlands Township. Some of these groups are appointed by the Township Board of Directors, while others are elected by the community. They are responsible for studying issues of community interest and making recommendations to the Township Board, which retains final decision-making authority. Certain committees, such as the Residential Design Review Committees and the Design Standards Committee, have specific responsibilities and operate with more autonomy. These advisory bodies are not governed by state laws but are created by the Township Board either for a set term or an indefinite period.

Development Standards Committee

The Development Standards Committee (DSC) has the responsibility to adopt and enforce standards governing property use and maintenance. The committee promulgates rules and regulations that govern The Woodlands. The DSC, which is made up of four residents appointed by the Township Board and three Woodlands Development Company appointees, is the only committee with the power to grant variances. The DSC also reviews requests for improvements on all existing commercial properties.
