Safety PSA's

Creating a safer community starts at home. The Woodlands Township, in partnership with local law enforcement, encourages residents to take simple steps each day to help prevent crime and protect their families and property.

Secure Your Home

Home security starts with simple steps. Lock all doors and windows, even when you're home, and set your alarm system every time you leave. Make sure outdoor lighting is functional, use deadbolts on exterior doors, and trim landscaping to eliminate hiding places near windows and entryways. These small actions make your home a less attractive target.

Secure Your Vehicle

Most vehicle break-ins in The Woodlands are crimes of opportunity—and often happen to unlocked cars. Always lock your vehicle, take valuables inside, and never leave garage remotes, keys or weapons inside. Park in well-lit areas and consider installing a dash cam or motion-activated lights near your driveway for added deterrence.

Don't Leave Your Garage Door Open

An open garage is an open invitation for theft—not just of items inside the garage, but potentially of access into your home. Even if you're working in the yard or just stepping inside for a moment, always close your garage door when not in use. Get in the habit of checking that it’s fully closed at night and when leaving your house.

The 9 p.m. Routine

The 9 P.M. Routine is a simple nightly habit that helps prevent crime by reinforcing safety practices before you go to bed. At 9 p.m. each night, check that all doors and windows are locked, your alarm system is armed, your garage door is closed, and your vehicle is locked with valuables removed. Turning on exterior lights adds an additional layer of visibility and security.

Aware & Prepared | Project 365

Project 365: Aware & Prepared is The Woodlands Township’s year-round public safety initiative focused on crime prevention and emergency preparedness. Each season features timely tips, tools and events to keep residents informed and ready. One of this year’s featured resources is the Home Security Checklist, which helps residents assess and improve their home’s safety step-by-step.
