The Township is hosting a week-long “bioblitz” – a community effort to identify as many species as possible during National Pollinator Week. This effort provides an informal, fun opportunity for the public to learn together and share their enthusiasm for nature. And the information collected contributes to a genuine scientific survey. Anyone can participate regardless of age or knowledge level. National Pollinator Week, June 16-22, 2025, brings attention to the urgent issue of declining pollinator populations. Created by Pollinator.org, this worldwide celebration is also a call to action to save bees, birds, butterflies, bats and beetles. The Woodlands Township is celebrating National Pollinator Week by hosting a weeklong BioBlitz.
How to participate
Naturalist identifies and keeps track of your observations and shares the data with scientific organizations. Now you are participating in a world-wide citizen-science effort! Observations made during National Pollinator Week, June 16-22, will be tallied at the end of the week and results will be shared with our community. You can make as many or as few observations as you like and from any area you wish – backyard, park or forest. However much you participate, you will find that you learn something new, contribute to important scientific efforts including pollinator conservation, and have fun being outdoors. For more information on how you can celebrate National Pollinator Week, visit pollinator.org or email enviro@thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov.
The weeklong BioBlitz culminates at an in-person BioBooth on Saturday, June 21 at The Recreation Center at Rob Fleming Park from 8 to 11 a.m. Explore the display of biological wonders and look through the microscope to see butterflies and their host plants up close. Experts will be on hand to help with iNaturalist observations and answer questions on local insects, plants, birds, mushrooms, and more. This event is FREE for all ages.
