Compost Your Jack-o-Lanterns! 

Celebrate a greener Halloween with The Woodlands Township Environmental Services Department at our fifth annual Pumpkin Smash! Join us Sunday, November 1, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Sterling Ridge Park and Ride for an afternoon of pumpkin-smashing fun. 

Each year, Americans toss more than a billion pounds of pumpkins into landfills. Instead of sending your Halloween pumpkins to the trash, bring them to our event and give them a second life as compost. 

What should you bring? 

• Pumpkins of any size or number - carved or whole, even those painted with acrylics 
• Make sure to remove all non-compostable items like candles, stickers, yarn, googly eyes and any plastics 
• Safety goggles and gloves (bring your own, or use ours) 
• Closed-toe shoes for safety 

Smash It, Don’t Trash It! 
Bring your pumpkins and jack-o’-lanterns to be smashed and composted instead of sent to the landfill. Choose your favorite way to smash! Give it a whack with a bat, break it apart or watch it go splat from an 80-foot drop. Our team will be on hand to keep the fun safe while helping turn your pumpkins into valuable compost!

All smashed pumpkins will be turned into nutrient-rich compost for local gardens, keeping food waste out of the landfill. 

Curious about composting at home? Local composting experts will be on-site to answer questions and share info about free upcoming classes.
